One of the toughest aspects of being a college or university student is learning how to manage your time effectively. Not only do you have a bunch of homework and reading to do for your classes, but you are probably also trying to juggle a part time job and find time to socialize with your friends. It can seem overwhelming at first, but with practice you will soon learn how to budget your time appropriately. With that in mind lets take a look at 5 tips to complete your assignment in time.
- Create a Schedule
One of the most important things that is going to help you to hand your assignments in on time is creating a personal schedule to keep track of your assignments, classes and other commitments. You can do this using an app on your phone or in a diary or planner. Don’t only mark off due dates, go so far as to plan out every hour of your day. Block out times when you have class or are working and you will soon see how much time is available to you for study and homework – just don’t forget to plan some free time for yourself too!
- Create a Place to Study
Another important tip is to make sure that you have a place that you can study. This should be somewhere tidy and reasonably comfortable where you are not going to get distracted. If there is nowhere appropriate at home or in your dorm room then you will want to head out to the library. You will be amazed at how more efficiently you work when in the right environment.
- Don’t Leave it Until The Last Minute
This one seems like pretty basic common sense and yet college students everywhere are falling foul of leaving their assignments to the last possible minute. If you want to get your assignment handed in on time then you need to plan ahead. Start working on it as soon as possible while it is still fresh in your mind. If you complete it early then you have the chance to set it aside and come back to it with fresh eyes. On the other hand if you do not get started until the night before then you may find you end up running out of time and hand in sloppy work.
- Break Up Your Assignments
One of the most overwhelming things about completing a homework assignment is looking at it as a whole. To overcome this, try breaking it down into smaller tasks. For example, if you have scheduled yourself 2 hours each day to work on the assignment over a three day period then you might want to dedicate day one to research and taking notes, day two to writing a first draft and day three to editing and revising your assignment. Smaller tasks like this are easier to handle than one large assignment.
Above all else, in order to get those assignments handed in on time what you need to do is relax. When you are stressing out and rushing around you are not going to produce your best work. Take a deep breath and try to relax. If you have used the other tips then you should have plenty of time to work on your assignment, so for every half hour why not take a 5 minute break. You will find that you produce a far higher standard of work when you are relaxed.
Hopefully these helpful tips are going to allow you to manage your time more effectively and help you to get those important homework assignments handed in on time leaving you more time for other things – like having a little fun with your friends!
